Special Playoff Edition- Cranbrook (5-3) to face Harper Woods (4-4) in first round of state playoffs


The Cranes look to continue their circle of success against Harper Woods in the first round of the MHSAA playoffs.

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes (5-3) will face the Harper Woods Pioneers (4-4) in the state playoffs. This game is the Division 4, Region 4, District 1 Semi-Final of the MHSAA playoffs.

Harper Woods comes into this game 4-4, registering wins over Detroit Renaissance (26-12), Detroit University Prep (44-0), Dearborn Heights Robichaud (55-12), and Hamtramck (2-0) and losses to Toledo Catholic Central (35-12), Crete-Monet (IL) (35-7), River Rouge (45-19), and Gibraltar Carlson (30-16).

The Pioneers are led by senior Lemul Watley, a Indiana University commit. A nationally ranked DB/RB, Watley is a threat on either side of the ball.

On the other side of the field is senior Deovion Brown, a WR with offers from Siena Heights, Saginaw Valley St, Davenport, Grand Valley State, Northwood, Ferris State, Notre Dame College, Wayne State, and Wheeling Jesuit University.

“Harper Woods has very talented athletes with a lot of speed and skill”, said Cranes Head Coach Ben Jones. “We look forward to a great contest against them.”

Cranbrook comes into this game with a 5-3 record, with wins over Pontiac High (41-0), Riverview Gabriel Richard (15-7). Walled Lake Central (10-0), Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard (35-12), and Macomb Lutheran North (25-15). Their losses came to University of Detroit Jesuit (40-3), Detroit Loyola (16-0), and Dearborn Divine Child (14-10).

The Cranes are led by senior Jack Fairman, a LB/RB who holds offers from Cornell and Johns Hopkins. Fairman was noted as an outstanding performer in Week 8 by the Detroit Free Press for his play against Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.

On the other side of the field is senior RB/LB Tariq Muhammad, who holds offers from Valparaiso, Amherst, and Hope College. A Free Press Top Performer in Week 7 and 8, he looks to have a promising collegiate career playing football.

“We have a talented team that plays good football, I am proud of their progress this year”, said Coach Jones. It should be a good game.”

The game will be played at Cranbrook’s Del Walden Field, located at 550 Lone Pine Road, Bloomfield Hills MI 48304. Kickoff is at Saturday, November 2, 2018 at 2:30 p.m.
