The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes were defeated by the Detroit Loyola Bulldogs 20-17 at the Annual Friday Night Lights homecoming game.   The loss puts Cranbrook at 4-2 on the season.

The Cranes were behind 14-7 at the half, but took the lead after a 23-yard FG by sophomore K Chase Paulus and a 22-yard TD run by junior QB Jack Fairman.

After the Cranes defense held the Bulldogs on the next series, Cranbrook put together a drive deep into Loyola territory.

But a Crane fumble gave the Bulldogs another change.  Loyola would drive 76 yards to score the winning TD.

“We had our chances to win, but we gave some things away early, and some late in the game”, said Cranes Head Coach Scott Steward.  “I am very proud of the effort our team gave against a tough opponent.”

The night was also special as Cranbrook honored Gen. Pete Dawkins, a Cranbrook Football alum who went on to play at Army.  Dawkins would win the coveted Heisman Trophy while at West Point, before having a distinguished military career in the service of our nation.

“It was an honor for our team to meet General Dawkins, who spoke to the boys about service and dedication.  He stressed the importance of being on a team headed in the right direction.  He is an amazing human being with all that he has accomplished in his life”, said Coach Steward.

Entering the bottom half of their regular season, Cranbrook moves on to face Riverview Gabriel Richard in a CHSL crossover game on the road next week.

Cranbrook can earn a potential berth to the MHSAA playoffs with one more victory, and will solidify a berth with two.

“We are focused on making the playoffs now. We are taking one game at a time”, said Coach Steward.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
