Cranbrook will play for a MHSAA Regional Title this weekend.
The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes will face the River Rouge Panthers in Round 3 of the MHSAA playoffs. This game serves as the MHSAA Division 4- Region 4 final game.
The Panthers come into this game 9-2 overall on the season, with playoff wins over Flat Rock (42-6) and Chelsea (35-10).
Champions of the Michigan Metro Conference Blue in 2017, River Rouge has dominated the conference since 2010.
“River Rouge is an accomplished team with a great track record,” says Cranes head coach Joe D’Angelo. “They are no stranger to being in the playoffs.”
The Panthers have made 8 straight playoff appearances. In 2015, River Rouge made it to the state finals, before losing a close game to Grand Rapids West Catholic.
“This is a team that has been tested and is built for a deep run toward a state title. They bring great passion and physicality to this game. “ said D’Angelo.
The Panthers are led by junior QB Emanuel Ferguson, senior RB Alonte Davis, and senior RB Dauran McKinney.
Cranbrook comes in to the game 10-1 overall, with playoff wins over Madison Heights Lamphere (35-0) and Detroit Mumford (7-0).
The Cranes finished first in the CHSL Intersectional I and were winners of the Prep Bowl Championship at Ford Field.
“We have had a good season, our team has done well,” said D’Angelo.
This is the fourth straight playoff appearance for the Cranes. The win over Mumford gave the school their first ever MHSAA District Championship.
“Having a deep run in the playoffs was a team goal for this year. Our boys have been focused toward preparation for each game as it comes”, said D’Angelo.
The Cranes are led by senior QB Trevor McConnell, senior RB Aaron Wiggins, and junior WR Kobi Russell.
The game will be played on the Del Walden Field at the Thompson Oval on the Cranbrook Campus. The address is 550 Lone Pine Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
