The Cranes march past the Allen Park Cabrini Monarchs 56-7; 4 TD passes by McConnell.


Trevor McConnell passed for 4 touchdowns in victory over Cabrini.

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes (4-1) (1-0) defeated in the Allen Park Cabrini Monarchs (3-2)(0-2) in their CHSL divisional opener. This is the fourth straight win over Cabrini by Cranbrook.

The Cranes opened up the scoring with a 36 yard pass play to senior RB Aaron Wiggins from senior QB Trevor McConnell at the 6:29 mark in the first quarter.

After a stalled drive by Cabrini, the Cranes would find daylight on a 5-yard run by Wiggins to put the score at 14-0 with 4:24 left to play in the first quarter.

McConnell would find junior WR Torrell Williams on a 40 -yard pass play with :05 left in the 1st quarter to make the score 21-0.

The scoring would continue in the second quarter with a 31-yard pass play from McConnell to senior TE Andrew Mertz. The score stood at 28-0 at the 10:30 mark.

McConnell would finish his aerial assault with a 47-yard pass play to junior WR Kobi Russell to bring the score to 35-0 with 8:15 left to play in the half.

The Cranes would score two more times before halftime- a 64-yard scamper by junior RB Murari Nelluri and a 32-yard run by sophomore RB Tariq Muhammad. The score stood at 49-0 at the half.

Cranbrook would add another score in the third period, on a 27-yard run by Muhammad.

Cabrini would fight back with a Stanley Jackson 4-yard catch for the Monarch’s lone score. The game would end 56-7.

“I was proud of our boys playing well today,” says Cranes Head Coach Joe D’Angelo. “Coming of a tough loss last week, we wanted to focus on preparing for each remaining game. We did a good job today.”

McConnell finished with 7 for 11 with 191 yards and 4 TD’s. Williams led the receivers with 3 receptions for 69 yards and 1 TD. Muhammad led the rushers with 3 carries for 79 yards and 2 TD’s. Aaron Wiggins had 1 TD reception and 1 TD rushing.

Junior LB Conner Toomey had 9 tackles and Senior DE Chris Smith had 8.5 tackles and 2 TFL’s. K Pierson Cooke went 7 for 7 on PAT’s.

The Cranes face Riverview Gabriel Richard on the road next week.
