The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes (2-0) defeat the Detroit University Prep Panthers (1-1) 37-0;

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes defeated the Detroit University Prep Panthers 37-0 in a non-conference matchup. The victory moves the Cranes to 2-0 on the season.

The Cranes opened the scoring with a 14-yard pass from senior QB Trevor McConnell to junior WR Torrell Williams at the 9:34 mark in the first period.

After a Panthers punt, the Cranes put together a 63- yard drive that ended in an 8 yard run by senior RB Aaron Wiggins.

The Cranes led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, McConnell found junior WR Kobi Russell for a 29-yard pass play at the 5:29 mark to put the Cranes up 21-0.

Detroit University Prep put together a drive and began to move in to the Cranes territory, but it ended on an interception by senior WR Marqis Stokes near midfield.

The Cranes wasted no time, and converted the Stokes interception into points. McConnell would find Wiggins on a 54 yard pass play to give the Cranes a touchdown.

The Cranes would score once more before the half, forcing the Panthers into a safety just before half time.

The Cranes led 29-0 at the half.

Cranbrook would exercise ball control throughout the 3rd period, finding the end zone at the beginning of the 4th period. Junior RB Murari Nelluri would find daylight on a 10 yard scamper for the score. He would also score on the 2-point conversion to give the Cranes their 37-0 final score.

“We gave a good effort today,” said Cranes Head Coach Joe D’Angelo. “Our offense executed well against an experienced defense. We were able to get good field position from our defensive play. “

Offensively, QB Trevor McConnell would go 13 for 21 and 3 TD’s and 1 Int. RB Aaron Wiggins would rush 7 times for 141 yards and 1 TD, WR Kobi Russell would lead the receivers with 6 receptions for 89 yards and 1 TD.

Defensively, sophomore Jack Fairman led the effort with 11 tackles and 1 sack. Senior DE Tim Hauxwell contributed with 6.5 tackles and 1 TFL. Senior CB Marqis Stokes had his second interception on the season.

University Prep senior RB Devon Ford provided the offense for the Panthers, with 20 rushing attempts for 108 yards. Senior QB Leo Mumfield went 6 for 16 and 47 yards and 1 INT.

The Cranes move on to their CHSL opener next week on the road facing Royal Oak Shrine in a crossover pairing.
