The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes (0-1) will face the Macomb Lutheran North Mustangs (1-2) in a CHSL crossover game. The Cranes narrowly lead this series 20-17 all time.
Lutheran North comes into this game having achieved a resounding victory over University Liggett 55-12 last week. And while they have suffered defeats to Riverview Gabriel Richard 14-0, and Bishop Foley 48-29, the Mustangs are a scoring threat every time they possess the ball.
“Lutheran North has an offense that allows them to put up points quickly,” said Cranes Head Coach Steve Graf. “They averaged almost 28 points a game over the last several years in their victories.”
Since all teams qualify for the MHSAA state playoffs this year, the Mustangs are seeking to regain their playoff level form of 2018, where they made the district semi-final with one of their best records ever.
“We have had excellent matchups with Lutheran North, and we expect a good contest this week”, said Graf. “Our resolve will be tested.”
The Cranes come into this game ready to march toward the MHSAA playoffs for the 7th consecutive year. A victory over the Mustangs would improve their chances for a deep run in the playoffs.
“We have had a growing season so far. We have seen growth in both our starters and our backups,” said Coach Graf.
Junior QB Shane Wittenberg has led the Cranes passing attack. Junior RB Travis Illitch has command of the running game. Sophomore WR Alex Yolles has been the leading receiver.
The Crane defense, led by seniors LB Drew Lauer, DE Bryce Hall, and DT Max Spradlin continues to render great performances.
“This will be a good matchup”, said Graf.
The game will be played Saturday at the Thompson Oval, Del Walden Field on the Cranbrook Campus. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
