Signing Day Special- Tariq Muhammad

Tariq Muhammad will play football at Amherst College in Amherst, MA.

Named a captain in his senior year, Tariq demonstrated his presence on both sides of the football, both as an outstanding RB and as a LB in a tough-nosed defense.

Tariq was a dual threat-a irresistible force on offense to contain and a immovable object on defense to avoid.

As an offensive player playing RB, Tariq had 230 attempts for 1624 total yards. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry over his entire career. He had 17 rushing TD's. He also had 14 receptions for 108 yards.

As a defensive player playing LB, Tariq had 124 tackles, 7 TFL's, 4 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, and 1 sack.

Tariq was named MaxPreps Player of the Game four times in 2019.

In a signature offensive performance, Tariq carried the ball 22 times for 261 yards and two touchdowns in the 24-15 win vs. Macomb Lutheran North. A 61-yard scamper set the Cranes up for a good win and drew praise from the opposing team.

“He hurt us,” Lutheran North Head Coach Garrett Wenzelburger told the Macomb Daily in October 2019. “Their offensive line did a great job and he’s got that sprinter speed. When he gets out in space, you can see that sprinter speed.”

This performance was a warm up- in his next game he finished with 275 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns on only 14 carries against Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.

On defense, Tariq had 12 tackles in a tough game vs. Detroit Loyola, and a sack and safety in a win over Riverview Gabriel Richard.

“Tariq made great contributions on the field over the years,” said Cranbrook Head Coach Ben Jones. “A solid player that showed up at key moments, he was a threat to score every time he touched the ball. “He gave us a chances to win.”

His list of awards includes being named 2019 Michigan High School Football Coaches Association All State team, 2019 AP All-State Team, Second Team, 2019 Detroit Free Press All State Team, Honorable Mention. 2019 Detroit News All North Team, Honorable Mention; 2019 All-Catholic, 2018 All-League, CHSL Player of the Game vs. Cabrini, Max Preps; Player of the Week, Hometown Life News; Top Performer of the Week-Detroit Free Press; 2019 Co-MVP Cranbrook Football.

Tariq received offers from Valparaiso, Hope College, Amherst College.
