Cranbrook to face Pontiac High in MHSAA football opener.

Senior RB Jack Fairman rushes for yardage in scrimmage against Centerline

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes will face the Pontiac Phoenix in their football season opener this week.

The Phoenix finished 1-8 last year and placed last in the Oakland Athletic Association, Blue Conference.

Pontiac achieved a 28-8 non-conference win last year over Detroit Voyageur Academy in their signature victory for 2018. They look to improve on their record with a better running game and big play options.

“Pontiac will give you different looks,” says Cranes Head Coach Ben Jones. “We must prepare for a team that has good athletes and can score quickly.”

The Cranes enter in to the 2019 season as second place finishers of the CHSL AA-Division. They also have made five straight appearances in the MHSAA playoffs.

“We had a good camp and a decent scrimmage against Centerline. We have a lot of positive energy going into the season.” says Coach Jones.

Cranbrook returns a good number of starters, including 6’2’ 205 lbs. senior RB/LB Jack Fairman and 5’11 175 lbs. senior RB/LB Tariq Muhammad to the team.

In the trenches, the Cranes will be led by 6’3” 260 lbs. senior Will Kerr, 6’4” 265 senior Ahmad Masood, and 6’3” 240 lbs. junior Bryce Hall.

The Cranes have won their last 8 season openers, but Cranbrook will not rest on its past success.

"This will be a physical game. We just want to execute and play solid football" said Coach Jones.

This non-conference game will be played Thursday August 29, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Wisner Stadium. The field is located at 441 Cesar Chavez Avenue Pontiac, MI 48342.
