The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes (1-0) defeated the Redford Union Panthers (0-1) in a non-conference match up to open their 2018 season. The win is the 8th straight opening day victory for the Cranes.

The Panthers run game held the ball for most of the first quarter, but the Crane defense held them out of the end zone. The score stood 0-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Cranes finally got on the board on a 3-yard run by sophomore RB Jack Fairman in the second quarter. A 28-yard pass from sophomore QB Jacob Bousamra to senior WR Torrell Williams put the score at 13-0 in the same period.

Cranbrook led 13-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Panthers offense found its rhythm, driving deep into Cranbrook territory. But the Cranes defense would find its resolve, and kept Redford Union from scoring.

In the fourth quarter, the Cranbrook running game kept the ball away with good runs by senior Murari Nelluri and junior Tariq Muhammad.

The Cranes ran the clock out to end the game.

“I am proud of our effort today. We were well-prepared to face a good running team”, said Cranbrook Head Coach Scott Steward. “Our defense had discipline and focus to slow down their running game.”

On offense, Bousamra had 5 completions on 6 attempts for 65 yards and 1 TD. RB Jack Fairman led the rushers with 12 rushes for 32 yards and 1 TD.

On defense, senior LB Connor Toomey led the Cranes with 12 tackles, 3 for a loss, caused a fumble, and recovered one.

The Cranes next game will be at home against Windsor Holy Names. The game will be held on August 30, 2018 at Del Walden Field. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
