Cranbrook to face University Liggett in Week 8 prep football contest.

The Cranes will host University Liggett in their Friday Night Lights game.

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes will square off against the Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett Knights in Week 8 action. This is the final CHSL regular season game for the Cranes.

Liggett is completing its first season in the Catholic League, having been members of the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference for the last 8 years.

After a 10-1 season last year, the Knights are just 1-6 this season. Their only win came over Lutheran North for a homecoming victory.

“I am anxious to see how this group of guys finishes the season,” Liggett Head Coach Dan Cimini told the Grosse Point News last week. “We have a young group and they will only get better. They have made mistakes, but they are learning and becoming better football players.”

The Knights are led by sophomore QB Ian Narva, junior WR Dan Bowen, and senior OL/DL Desmon Darby.

“Liggett has great athletic play by their quarterback, who can run and throw” said Cranes Head Coach Joe D’Angelo. “They are able to control the ball with a balanced attack.”

Liggett has progressively scored more points in each of its games, from a season low of 7 points in their first game verses Waterford Our Lady of Lakes to a season high of 30 in their last contest against Cabrini.

“Liggett is a developing young team this year, with a history of good coaching” said D’Angelo. “They made the state playoffs for 7 consecutive years. We anticipate a good game from them.”

Cranbrook enters this game with an overall 6-1 record and ranked ninth in the latest Associated Press (AP) standings for Division 4. They are undefeated in their CHSL divisional games this season.

“Our team is seeing solid output from our starters and noticing improvement from our back up players. We are starting to see our younger player have more confidence,” said D’Angelo.

The Cranes are led offensively by senior QB Trevor McConnell, senior RB Aaron Wiggins, and junior Kobi Russell. Defensively senior DE Chris Smith, senior CB Marqis Stokes, junior S Torrell Williams, and sophomore LB jack Fairman lead the defense.

Cranbrook leads this series 11-7 over Liggett all time.

This game is homecoming and senior night for the Cranes. The game will played at the Del Walden Field in the Thompson Oval. It’s located on the Cranbrook Campus at 550 Lone Pine Rd. Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304
