Game Preview- The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes (1-0) take on the Detroit University Prep Panthe

The Cranes will face Detroit University Prep this Thursday on the Del Walden Field at 4:00 p.m.

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes (1-0) continue their fall campaign this week against the Detroit University Prep Panthers (1-0) in a non-conference match up.

Both teams come into this contest undefeated, as the Panthers handily defeated Detroit Leadership Academy 49-6, and as the Cranes outlasted Redford Union 35-0 in Week 1.

“Their 49-6 win over Detroit Leadership Academy was impressive. The only score they gave up last week was on a kickoff return”, said Cranbrook Coach Joe D’Angelo. “We will need to prepare this week to match their performance.”

The Panthers senior RB Davon Ford scored two rushing TD’s and junior RB Kyle Henderson also ran for two scores in their victory over Detroit Leadership Academy.

“They have a good running game behind a good offensive line”, said D’Angelo.

The Cranes come into this game with their own impressive victory over Redford Union. Cranbrook has won their last 7 season openers, and has been ranked among the top teams in their division.

With outstanding performances from senior QB Trevor McConnell (10 for 17, 2 TD’s), senior LB Andrew Mertz (13 tackles), and senior CB/WR Marqis Stokes (1 INT, 4 receptions for 85 yards), Cranbrook looks to continue its success.

Senior LB Andrew Mertz had 13 tackles against Redford Union

“We had good output from our team last week, especially from our senior leadership”, said D’Angelo. “Many of our juniors also made big strides as well.”

Last year the Cranes and the Panthers met in the second week of the regular season. Cranbrook won that game 44-0 on the road.

“While we were fortunate to win last year, University Prep is another year older and wiser, “said D’Angelo. “Their team has grown and they are well-coached. I look forward to the contest.”

The game will be held Thursday August 31st, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played at the Del Walden Field on the Cranbrook Campus. The field is located at 550 Lone Pine Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304.
